CORAZON GAPAS GARCIA started her library career at the Philippine Science High School, Quezon City, from 1974-1979 as Library Assistant. After 5.5 years she transferred to the Central Bank of the Philippines the then Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
When she transferred to the Central Bank of the Philippines she was assigned to the Export Department, as records clerk, records custodian and trade analyst. When BSP was re-organized she transferred to the Department of Economic Research, Library, to the position of Librarian ll until she became the Manager of the Economic and Finanacial Learning Center, Library, up to her retirement on 31 January 2013.
She earned her Bachelors in Library Science degree at the University of the East, Manila.
With her attendance to various trainings, conferences, seminars and foras both local and international it was a tool for her to modernized the BSP Library. And also during her term as Manager the EFLC, Library, passed the International Standard Office (ISO), TUF SUD certificate. ELFC Library is the only ISO certified library in the Phillipines. In addition she also organized the Mariano Marcos Memorial Elementary School Learning Center, Batac City, sponsored by the Annak ti Batac, Inc. MMMESLC is the only public school elibrary in the province of Ilocos Norte. In 2010 said library won the accolade from the Department of Education as the most Functional Library in Central Schools category in Region l.
She joined the Association of Special Libraries of the Philippines in 1997 as director, treasurer, vice president and president in 2005. During her term as ASLPĀ President, she organized the first ASLP library study tour in Malaysia and Singapore. The library study tour was indeed very successful that encourages the participants to improve their libraries. Her participation to ASLP helped her to perform her work well and also she was able to meet different people in the field of library and information science. She said to be a librarian is a tough/challenging job.
